LET'S CREATE

Original Characters

Do you have characters living within you waiting to be set free? Maybe they pop out while doing mundane tasks or singing along to the radio. Or, maybe you have an idea for a character or two but you’re not sure how to find the right voice for them. If you’re curious about developing your own unique characters this engaging four-week class is for you.

Whether you’re an actor, improviser, sketch writer, or puppeteer, this nurturing space is tailor-made for you and your unique voice (both literal and figurative), offering you a place for exploration and play. We’ll touch upon character archetypes and read animation scripts for inspiration but our focus is developing your own characters, conceiving and writing for them.

Bring your ideas, come armed with curiosity, playfulness, willingness to get weird, and be ready to venture into the unfamiliar.  Let’s explore together!

Classes are taught by me, Stacia Newcomb. I’m a creator, actor/performer, writer, puppeteer and voice over artist. After 20 years in NYC I now primarily live in the woods in the Berkshires, and I’m staying creative with my production studio Sound & The Furry, creating podcasts for families - and coaching, teaching classes and hosting Industry Pro Workshops. I've played a played a multitude of characters in video games and the radio and TV - Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and most notably a cuddly 4 year old sidekick puppet named Star, on The Good Night Show which aired on PBS Kids Sprout/Universal Kids for 12 years. I travelled the country with 2 different one-woman shows and sold out two different Off-Broadway Variety Shows of my original material.
